Best Ukulele Brands

When it comes to ukulele brands, there are several different options on the market. Obviously, some of these brands are going to be fantastic. Most of them are going to be abysmal. On this page, we want to introduce you to what we believe are ten of the best ukulele brands around. If you pick up a ukulele and get it from one of the brands on this list, then you know that you have a fantastic instrument at your disposal.

1. Kala  – a popular and one of the best brand

Ask any ukulele player what the best brand of ukulele is and they will likely tell you that it is Kala. One of the reasons as to why they say this is down to the fact that Kala has been working incredibly hard to innovate the world of the ukulele. What they produce is always fantastic, and they work hard to ensure that only the best materials are used in their production. We, therefore, consider that Kala is one of the best ukulele brands. One of the things that I personally love about Kala is the fact that they offer quality ‘entry level’ ukuleles, which is great if you want something decent to get started.

2. Lanikai

If you are going to purchase a ukulele, why not purchase one from the island where the instrument gained its fame?  All of these instruments are produced on the island of Oahu. These are probably some of the most ‘affordable’ quality ukuleles on the market. Most of the ukuleles that you can find from Lanikai are ‘brighter’ in sound, which matches up with the company’s overall philosophy. Lanikai is a really popular brand for ukulele players and is one of the best ukulele brands.

3. Mahalo

Mahalo is not a company which really enters the upper end of the market. Mahalo is one of the best ukulele brands. They have spent most of their time trying to ensure that they produce quality ukulele products for the lower end of the market. In fact, this company has dominated the lower end of the market for so long, we would not be surprised if some of the most experienced players in the world of the ukulele got started with a Mahalo by their side.

4. Hola!

Sadly, Hola! Is not getting the praise that it deserves at the moment, mainly because they do not have a massive sum of cash to spend on marketing. That being said, we have seen many ukulele players start to check them out in recent years. While we can’t vouch for the upper end Hola! Products, we do have a lot of experience with the lower end products, having seen a lot of people pick them up as their first instrument. We can tell you that what you get for your money with Hola! Is absolutely fantastic. Worth every cent that you spend on it.

5. Luna

This company produces a lot more than just ukuleles. Based upon what we have seen, the company has a decent reputation in every market that it has entered into. The best Luna products can be found at the upper end of the market. There are some top products at the lower end of the market too. Although they may be available at a slightly higher price than some of the other companies on this list, so we would not really recommend them as an entry level ukulele.

6. Oscar Schmidt –  one of the Best Ukulele Brands

This is a company which really made its name in the world of acoustic guitars. However, they do not get that much praise there. The problem with the world of guitars is that a lot of people end up purchasing their product based on brand name alone. This is a shame because Oscar Schmidt produce ukuleles every bit as good as their counterparts, albeit at a far lower price. As we consider Oscar Schmidt as one of the best ukulele brands, we can guarantee you that anybody who ends up with an Oscar Schmidt ukulele. No matter the price they pay is going to be more than happy with it. There are some decent options at the lower end of the market too!

7. ADM

This is a company which is similar to Kala in the way in which they work. This is the fact that they tend not to focus on the upper end of the market. Instead, they work for the entry-level market. Certainly, they produce some affordable pieces too. While the designs of their instruments are nothing groundbreaking in the grand scheme of things, what we have played of theirs has always produced a nice and clean and sound. Basically, they are going to be a joy to play for anybody who is lucky enough to get their hands on one.

8. Sawtooth

Next up on our list is Sawtooth. We don’t really know of any high-end ukuleles that they produce. The company tends to focus on the lower end of the market. However, the beginner models that they have built are without a doubt some of the best. The best part is that because the company is so unknown, they are not really relying on their brand name to shift product. This means that the price is going to be far lower than some of their competitors that you will find on this list

9. Diamond Head

Again, this is a ukulele brand which not a lot of people tend to talk about. This is because they mainly focus on the lower end of the market. We are not going to lie here; Diamond Head ukuleles do not look like the greatest thing in the world. However, this is because the company has opted to focus on the overall sound of the product as opposed to the aesthetics. If you are performing on stage, you may want something that looks a bit better.

10. Cordoba

The last option on our list is Cordoba. If you play guitar, then you may have heard of them. This is because this company invests heavily in the production of high-end classical guitars. Therefore, Cordoba builds ukuleles upon the talents that they have gained in that part of the market.  While most of their instruments tend to be in the higher price bracket, they have produced some quality ukuleles down the lower end of the market too. A new player certainly would not be disappointed!
